'My Fitness Journey Ft. Asian Body Image Issues and Stigma Against Girls Who Lift'

'In this video, I talk about my fitness journey - how I fell in love with body building and in the process, fell in love with my own body and what I can achieve with determination and discipline. I reflect upon my days in high school where I would say, a victim of asian societal standards of beauty. I\'ve struggled with body image issues in the past - the perception of asian beauty being centred around having SKINNY LEGS, THIGH GAPS, STICK-THIN ARMS, TINY WAIST... you name it! There is as if a stigma against girls who lift weights in the part of the world where I come from, a fear that if you lift weights, you will look BULKY and look MANLY. If you are currently struggling with body image issues, or if you are afraid of lifting weights, hopefully you will find this video where I rant about the homogeneity of asian beauty, the misconception of muscle building and how body building has boosted my confidence, helpful and inspiring. Fitness should be a celebration of what you can do with your body, not to fit into a particular societal standard. :)'
